Christian religion

Today we have two things happening in parallel in the church. Some feel comfortable with what they're used to. Sadly some have taken things so far from Jesus it's more like a social club. Others love Jesus and serve Him wherever they are - including in groups quite different from that established by Jesus. Often these groups are not as conducive to every person hearing (and following) Jesus personally as might be hoped - but that's a different thing from groups having a different vision from each other. If we think that one group could contain the abundant life that is Jesus, our God is too small (as J B Phillips wrote).

Millennials know the same God but tend to be less prepared to "play games", wanting reality over religion. Some of us non-millennials have "left" the church. We strive to do what Jesus would do if He were among us today. We couldn't possibly be led astray - could we?  What's the latest thing Jesus has said to us - not about things or people around us - but about us? And how are we going on implementing it?

Learning isn't evenly paced, broken into subjects and examined at the end. Schools and religion do it that way - but living with Jesus involves times of resting and just being together, as well as times of learning. Even times of doing things are also part of teaching us lessons we need to learn. Some of us (speaking from experience) can be incredibly slow to pick up some things.

It is true that God's plans are proceeding. If we understand things correctly (plenty of others have made mistakes - including the first disciples) we can expect to see the Lord's return in a matter of decades rather than centuries. But God isn't depending on anyone (or group) of us. He needs no human to achieve His plans. He wants us each to improve our ability to hear Him, to talk with Him, and to do what He wants us to. As we do that, we are preparing ourselves for the world to come.

This is why following Jesus is fundamentally different from following the Christian religion.
