What is a house church?

Now that seems remarkably simple and profound - so much so I have to confess it's not mine. That paragraph (with one word changed) comes from a book - one of those reviewed on this site. Later in the book, the author points to three things that occurred within the Godhead before time began:

  • An exchange of divine life
  • An exchange of divine fellowship
  • A divine purpose to enlarge the life and fellowship to a creation called "humanity".

He then goes to a carpenter's shop in Nazareth where God taught Jesus three things:

  • To live by divine life
  • To experience the fellowship of the divine community
  • To enlarge the divine life and fellowship to others

In turn, Jesus taught these same things to the disciples - who taught others.

For some time I've been trying to figure out what house churches should be about. I still don't claim to really understand it - but it strikes me, having read these examples, that they're fairly basic - and perhaps if we used them as guidelines it would save a lot of unnecessary arguments and allow us to focus on what is important to God for all of his people.
