Where do our roots begin?

Over the years since then I've been forced to let go of more and more aspects of what I had always thought of as truth. I now see the reformation as merely a step along the way. God wants to restore us to Himself, without all of the baggage we've taken on. While that is my view of what God wants to do with me, I've also come to see it's also what God's plan is for His bride. All of the stuff that started to weigh down the church was brought into focus by Constantine and his successors. They actively sought to stamp out the roots of this faith and replaced it with the formalised church.

I make no claims to expert or prophetic insight - but it now seems fairly obvious even to this bear of very little brain that God wants to restore to Himself a people free from the baggage that weighs us down. That baggage includes many false ideas and other ideas seen through a veil, where the full truth is only dimly understood.

I don't expect us to start wearing the same clothes as the disciples, and like the Amish avoiding all modern technology. But I do think we need to do more than continue in the thinking of the world, albeit a decade or more behind in our race to the bottom. The reformation was just one step along the way back to where we came from. Let's not be deceived into thinking we've now made it, but push further into God's heart.
